Life insurance applications usually contain information about the applicant’s medical history that raise some concerns. Indications of prior treatments or current diagnoses of ailments relevant to life expectancy must undergo further analysis. In these cases, the underwriter usually requests an “Attending Physician Statement”, or “APS”, the most common and efficient way to obtain factual data pertaining to an applicant’s health history.

This APS must be submitted in English. Therefore, if the applicant is a foreign national, and the APS is written in a different language, it has to be accompanied by an English Certified Translation.

We have translated many of these documents for the most renowned life insurance companies in the US, such as John Hancock and New York Life.

Foreign National Loan Programs require applicants to prove that they have sufficient funds to cover the down payment, which is usually 30% of the loan amount. Lenders usually require bank statements and other financial documents issued in the applicant’s home country, which most of the times are written in a foreign language. In order for the loan underwriter to understand the information in these foreign financial documents and take the proper decision, they must include a certified English translation.

Certified Translations of Foreign Notarizations

When one of the parties in a real estate transaction is out of the country, the closing documents have to be mailed to his/her location for execution before a notary public duly commissioned in that jurisdiction. The Notary Public will execute a signature acknowledgment to certify that the party signed before him/her. These signature acknowledgments are written in the official language of the country where the documents were signed. The duly executed documents are then sent back to the US for recording purposes with the Clerk of the Courts. In order to be accepted for recording, all parts of these documents, including the notarizations, written in a foreign language must include a certified translation into English.
